Polar Plunge

Today was the 18th annual Tybee Island Polar Plunge. It is one of those events we go watch every year. Hundreds of brave souls, or if you prefer, idiots, come out to the beach to test their resolve in the cold Atlantic Ocean water. Today the air temperature was a mild 66 degrees at noon when the event kicks off. The water temperature was a bone chilling 60 degrees. We go to see the way some of the participants dress.

I think this guy was my personal favorite. If you are going why not go as the king. His scepter held a camera which would normally cost some style points but if you are a king it is an ideal way to take pictures.

This guy ran a close second. He lost out because the Bears played the Vikings today.

Nothing wrong with a female super hero.

Blues brother, dinosaur and a guy in his bath robe. Well, it draws all kinds of folks.

The contingent from Canada. The gal with the red hair is holding a baby. I guess Canadian babies are tough.

These are the Tybee Polar Plungers. They wear plungers on their heads and toilet seat rings around their necks.

The brave or foolish hit the water. They don't stay in long.

Green hair, why not?

It's the beach but she looks like she wishes she'd worn more clothes.

We got back to our car and these guys were in the truck next to us. If you look close you can see three dogs. There were two more not visible in this picture. All were giving us hell for looking at them. Little yapping dogs. It's hard to take them serious.

  1. Brrr. We were walking around the apartment complex last weekend and stopped at the pool so little Alfred could lie down at the edge and run her hands in it. Meanwhile Norah was sitting on the edge and flopping her legs around silly. Yep, she fell in and had her own polar plunge incident. Likely not as cold as the Atlantaic, but I'd give these guys credit for doing it - crazy but maybe a reason to have a hot cinnamon shot back at the bar.
