In our ongoing series- Tybee loves a parade this week we will celebrate the St. Patrick's Day parade that was held on Saturday, March 14th. If you wonder about St. Patrick's day in this part of the country be aware- it is a BIG deal. The parade in Savannah on Tuesday will be the 191st. It will last about three hours and be attended by somewhere in the neighborhood of 300,000 folks. City workers in Tybee get the day off from work. Go figure. Who would think it was that big a deal here? The parade began at 3:00 p.m. and had the largest crowd we have seen at any of the parades.
The picture above was taken from the southeast corner of Butler and Tybrisa looking across toward Benny's where Carol was enjoying a cold beer.
The guy on the left wearing the odd green beer hat was the reason this picture was included. Why is it always guys wearing the stupid hats?
This picture is looking east down Tybrisa toward the ocean.
Here we are looking north up Butler.
Once again, why are the guys the ones who look completely stupid? Green wig and a skirt? Can't even pretend that is a kilt.
This is where the parade got a bit confusing. The ladies from the Tybee Island Beach Brigade came down Butler way ahead of everyone else including the American Legion Color Guard. Apparently from what we have heard since is the parade organizer didn't like them waving beach chairs around. Allegedly worried someone in the crowd would get injured. The ladies were also accused of moving too slow with their dance routine and slowing the parade down in the past. If you ever visit here and think anything is going to happen on schedule you are sadly misinformed. My opinion for what it is worth, is they are old ladies. They are fun. Leave them alone. Let them do their thing. They are always a crowd favorite.
Apparently the guy in the picture below found the Beach Brigade ladies too stimulating.
He decided it was time to give his girlfriend an over the shirt, curbside breast exam. I would like to tell you it was a quick feel but he carried on for a couple of minutes before I decided to snap this picture and a couple more after it was taken.
Speaking of guys and silly stuff. This dude went full on dyed green hair. Thankfully it was short hair. The beginning of the parade will hit the blog tomorrow.
Looks like fun, and a lot drier than the parade I attended. Drier as in water, not the frothy stuff.
