Queen of Southern Cooking?

Recently we were in Savannah, Georgia. It is an old southern city with all the charm you would expect in a city of that age in the south. I have been to Savannah twice. Both times included a stop at The Lady and Sons a part of the Paula Deen empire. I have struggled with how I want to approach this blog entry. It has been rewritten and rewritten in my head about a hundred times. Ms. Deen has had some trouble recently with her sponsors and endorsements due to her use of the "n" word. I am going there so if you are offended perhaps now would be a good time to stop and move on to whatever you were going to do next on the internet. Maybe you could go look at some of that porn that seems to be everywhere on the web and choke your chicken.

Now that we have gotten that out of the way. Either you have decided that I'm not that offensive or that you are not easily offended or you are back because after choking your chicken you decided that nothing I could write would spoil your post orgasmic bliss.

Paula Deen has paid a heavy personal and professional price because under oath she admitted to referring to a person of color as a nigger. Fuck this whole "n" word politically correct bullshit. She did not admit in her deposition to calling this person a nigger to his face. He did, after all, have a gun to her head robbing the bank where she worked. She didn't think it would be prudent at the time to call him a nigger while he had the gun to her head. It shows remarkable restraint and excellent judgement. She did say that when she got home that day she did refer to him in that manner when recounting the events of the day to her husband. The incident took place over 20 years ago. The lawyer questioning her asked if she had ever used the word nigger in referring to a person of color. Since she was testifying under oath and she is a southern "lady" she told the truth. Those companies who had tied their flag to Ms. Deen's ship abandoned her faster than rats leaving the Titanic. In many cases she had made them many millions of dollars but now she was going to cost them a little of that so she had to go. Thanks Ms. Deen, now get the fuck on down the road. Corporations like WalMart who have cost the United States millions of job by forcing manufacturing jobs overseas to sweat shop in places like Bangladesh. A factory producing clothing recently collasped there killing over a thousand workers and WalMart says it is not their fault. Ms. Deen says nigger 20+ years ago and she's a liability. My point here is that the TV coverage has been about a few lines in her 147 page deposition. I took time to read it all. Most of the difficulties were at the establishment operated by her bother called Uncle Bubba's. Since it is a part of Paula Deen Enterprises and attorneys are blood sucking leeches they went where money is an included Ms. Deen in their lawsuit. She is just considered collateral damage in their attempt to get money for their "damaged" client. My feeling is this. Nigger is just a word. I worked at a prison for over 20 years. There were a few words you did not want in your vocabulary. Nigger was near the top. I don't recall ever using it there. Have a used that word before? Sure and lots of other insulting terms about other ethnic groups. All of us have. Get the fuck off your high horse and show some "Christian" forgiveness.

I used to tell Carol if I was ever going to leave her for another woman it would be Paula Deen. I love southern food and butter. She is the queen of both. I have had a change of heart. It has nothing to do with her using the word nigger. During the deposition they asked her about email. Paula, to my dismay, said she did not know how to use email. I can only assume from that she does not text either. Paula, dear sweet simple Paula, how are we going to send each other pictures of our junk if you don't know how to use email. No personal emails with pictures of those sweet Georgia peaches, no pictures of your tempting pie or muffin, no closeup of your juicy thighs. I've seen all those items at your restaurant, all prepared by others. I want to see what the real Paula Deen goodies look like. You chicken choking motherfuckers get your minds out of the gutter. I'm talking about her food. Her home cooking.

In closing, next time I go to Savannah I will visit The Lady and Sons for another excellent meal. It isn't a failure to judge Ms. Deen. Those who so often want to quote the Bible are quick to say: "Judge not." What is actually says when read in context is to tell us to not judge with notion that we will not be judged by the same standard we use in judging others. It is a warning to avoid being a hypocrite. Paula said a bad thing. So have we all. I don't support her because I'm a racist. It is because I am human and given the circumstances under which the statement was made I understand how it came to be said. Let he or she who is without this flaw cast the first stone.
