First, sorry about the missed blog post yesterday. The problem with posting daily is finding time when the granddaughters are here and our son Jeremy. The problem will get worse before it gets better. Tomorrow we leave for Illinois and the drive will take all day. So don't look for anything tomorrow. The computer I use to blog is being disconnected following this post. What I can promise is that by the end of June there will be 30 posts for the month. At the end of the year the promised 365 will have been written and published. Now on to today's brief post.
What is going to cost you? Well at least in the short term the insurgent action in Iraq is going to effect your pocketbook. The insurgent capture of Mosul and their move toward Baghdad over the last couple of days has caused an increase in the price of oil. In the past week oil on the market (light crude) has gone from under $103 per barrel to almost $107 per barrel. So while you may consider the war in Iraq no big deal and the trillion dollars we borrowed to pay for it. You may have another consideration to weigh in the personal price of that war when you gas up your car. Will the price of crude oil continue to rise? I'm not sure anyone knows at this time. It will likely depend on how far the insurgents advance and what destabilizing effect that has on the Middle East. It appears at this point they have the weapons and money to do plenty of damage. They can thank the Iraqi army for the weapons, left behind as they turned and ran. I guess they should thank the American taxpayer as well since it was equipment we left behind. Don't worry we are going to do it again in Afghanistan. The military has determined it is cheaper to leave the stuff behind rather than pay to ship it back to the United States or bases we have elsewhere on the planet. It will make it easier to get involved in our next war. It will give us an excuse. They are using weapons and have weapons that threaten the people of the United States. They may attack the "homeland". Probably not a good idea to mention that the weapons they are using were left behind by us or sold by us to them.
So get ready to pay more at the pump. Get ready to spend more on war. Get ready to see more of our precious young people sent off to war in a faraway land. It will continue to happen until we stand up and say enough. Now we just sit and idle our time away bitching on Facebook about a POW trade and an ambassador killed in Libya. The blame goes far beyond this president and his predecessor. It goes beyond our Congress, present and past. We allow this to go on. We sit by and ignore anything that might cause us to think. Easier to worry about whatever Justin Beiber and Lady Gaga might be doing. So sit back and watch some "reality television" while reality comes up behind you and destroys what you could have participated in fixing. It is going to cost you.
