Granddaughters

We are blessed to have six wonderful granddaughters. Clearly we are prejudiced and this post will reinforce that fact. Saturday we went to Rushville first to see Vannessa and Johnnie play in the Rushville Youth Soccer League. They play on the orange team. Audrey has a spot on the team but has chosen not to play. It is good to know that their parents allow them to choose the activities they want and don't force them into something. John is the coach of the team and it is good to see him giving back to the community and participating. They orange team had two games Saturday morning. They won the first and lost the second. It was clear in the second game they were just tired. I am going to post a few pictures without comment. There are two soccer fields in use at the time these were taken and the games are attended by several hundred town folks. It is a tribute to small town life.

After the soccer games we headed south to Godfrey to visit with our daughter Tammie and her three daughters. They are wonderful young ladies as well and a real joy to visit. Shekinah, Bailey and Josephine kept us entertained. Josephine is five and getting ready to start kindergarten. She can talk nonstop about anything and everything. At one point in the visit she looked at us and asked why we were so fat. I think her mother was mortified. We were amused. She is just a five year old who is full of conversation and questions. Typically kids that age have no filter and just ask whatever crosses their mind. Bailey is 8 and is a very intelligent young lady. She loves to read which is a great habit to have when you have a curious mind like hers. Shekinah is 17 and will be starting her senior year in high school. The trait that Shekinah has that surprises me and makes me proud of her is that she is an individual. She has her own style, her own thoughts, her own view on the world. You can feel free to disagree with her if you would like but I would suggest being careful debating facts with her. She is wicked smart. She is not afraid to challenge you with facts and well reasoned arguments about a wide variety of subjects. When so many seem to want to blend in and be an invisible part of a group she chooses to walk the path she sees for herself and not concern herself with the road traveled by the majority. Here is a picture of Shekinah, Bailey and Josephine.

  1. Nice. I reckon wealth can be measured by family and not bank accounts.
