The Johnnie Special
Yesterday we had the privilege of having three of our beautiful granddaughters with us for the day. We didn't do much but hang out in the house. Their great grandmother Anna stopped by for a visit and the girls really enjoyed that time. Late in the afternoon we got the call that John and Mandie would be back home around 6:30 pm and we got in the car and headed south to Rushville. When we got there we dropped their dogs off at the house and went out to supper at the Mexican restaurant in Rushville. That is where the Johnnie Special was born. Carol ordered chicken soup and Johnnie ordered chicken tenders and French fries. When the meal arrived Carol, for whatever reason, had gotten three warm flour tortillas with her soup. Johnnie asked if she could have them. She added fries, a chicken strip and Mexican dipping cheese to the tortilla and created the Johnnie Special. Think about the creation. Carbs from the tortilla and fries, protein from the chicken and cheese, and enough sodium and fat to kill someone my age. Clearly this is not an item that will make it to the school lunch menu. It would be a big hit at Taco Bell. Johnnie needs to trademark this thing. Think about it. Every kid would love this, well except those who are lactose intolerant. Not a green vegetable in sight. Cheese, fries, chicken, especially boneless chicken. That was my error the day before. I cooked a whole chicken. The girls didn't want it because it wasn't boneless. Personally if they develop a whole boneless chicken I don't want anything to do with it. Think back to when you were a kid. Did you have some special food you loved that other people thought was strange? Peanut butter and banana sandwich? I have always liked American singles cheese slices on saltines crackers with a dollop of mayo on top. Not just any mayo, it has to be Hellmans. Before you judge the Johnnie Special go to your local Mexican restaurant and get the ingredients for the Johnnie Special and try one.
