I'm not picking sides here. The Law Enforcement Officer's memorial was closest to where I parked so the pictures came up first when they were loaded on the computer. If you walk about two blocks down Oglethorpe Avenue from the Law Enforcement Officer's memorial you will arrive at the Fire Fighter's Memorial.
There are not as many names inscribed on the Fire Fighter's Memorial but the work is no less dangerous. Carol's father Larry was a fireman for the Galesburg, Illinois fire department for a little less than 10 years before he was stricken with a major heart attack. When you think about it the danger in their chosen profession becomes very real. While all of us are running away from the burning building, they are running TOWARD it. We are fleeing for our lives and they are trying to save anyone left behind.
When you are standing at this memorial and look across the street you see the fire station for the downtown Savannah area.
