Lighthouse Legion

We are still learning about Tybee Island and finding different experiences around the island. Last Thursday we went to the local American Legion post for a "low country boil". Around here they boil shrimp, potatoes, corn on the cob and smoked sausage into a damn tasty meal. Now down here in the south sweet corn is not the same as sweet corn up in western Illinois corn country. Life is always full of trade offs. Shrimp in Illinois is sad in comparison to the fresh shrimp you get here in the "low country". So it was $10.00 each for a plate of good food and a couple of Miller Lites at $2.00 each. Not bad for a meal out $24.00 total and a chance to support the local veterans organization. I went back a few days later to take some pictures of the legion post on Tybee Island. I hope I did it justice with my amateur skills.

For the curious Fort Screven is located on Tybee Island.
I felt the Lighthouse in the background of the Legion Post was a nice touch. The men who fought in our wars are a beacon lighting the way to freedom and prosperity for the rest of us with their willing sacrifices. If you look closely in the last picture you can see folks who braved the high temperatures to climb to the top of the lighthouse.
