Oglethorpe Avenue

The last two posts have addressed the Fire Fighters and Law Enforcement Officers memorials. This post will be about the two blocks that occupy the space between them. Next to the police station is Colonial Park Cemetery. As I was walking along the fence I noticed this little fella sitting in a tree eating an acorn. I stuck the camera lens between the fencing and took a couple of pictures. Like my buddy Mike says, "Be ready!"

It seems like every block or so in the historic district there is a marker noting something of importance. Oglethorpe Avenue is no exception.

Conrad Aiken lived in Savannah at 228 E. Oglethorpe Avenue for a time in his life and later in life at 230 E. Oglethorpe. If you are interested 228 is for sale.

I have shown pictures on previous blog entries about the workmanship on some of the homes in Savannah. Once again- they don't build them like this anymore.

Here is a closer look at the ironwork.

A little walk brings us to this door.

This marker is also in that two block area of Oglethorpe.

So much in such a small two block walk and that was without addressing any of the massive history contained in Colonial Park Cemetery since it has been the subject of other blog posts. Carol's meeting ended and we were off to Wiley's Championship BBQ restaurant for a bit of lunch. Then home for a bit of rest and to take Miss Lily for a walk. The rest of the afternoon would be spent at the Pirate Fest Parade on Tybee Island. It will be the subject of several blog posts tomorrow. Time permitting of course.
