Wine

Today was the Grand Wine Tasting event for the 6th Annual Tybee Wine Festival. The Festival is held each year to generate funds to restore the Tybee Post Theater. The Grand Wine Tasting is held on the grounds of the Tybee Lighthouse. Carol and I are doing our best to go to events in the community and try to be an active part of our new community. Interestingly enough the news tonight indicated that 75% of those in attendance were not from Tybee Island.

It is difficult when you go to wine festivals not to compare one to another. We have been to the Illinois Wine Festival that is held in the fall a couple of times. No offense to the folks down here but the wines we had today were not as good as the Illinois produced wine at that festival. The wines today were all imports with the exception of some from California. Illinois vineyards and Illinois wine makers can hold their heads high regarding the quality of the wine they produce. On the other hand the food at this wine festival was clearly superior to any we have had at the Illinois festival. Tubby's bacon wrapped scallops were a thing of beauty. Huc-A-Poos basil pizza was a hit. Gerald's Pig and Shrimp pulled pork was a taste treat. Oh if only to get the two groups together. Southern cooks and Illinois wine. A marriage made in heaven.

The final thought is the beauty of the venue. It is simply too subjective for me to make a fair call. The Lighthouse with the ocean in the background or the trees in Illinois beginning to show their glorious fall colors. I guess it is up to the individual viewer.
